Don Quixote lives in each of us. We are afraid to protest against injustice because we fear being laughed at. If all the don-quixotes in the world unite their voices will be heard. No nation has the right to "own" Don Quixote, and the quixotism is such a contagious idea that, at the end of it, Sancho himself puts on his master's clothes.                                                                                                                                                     ~ Alexander Morfov

REVIEWS:

"A simple village woman transforms into an exquisite ballerina which later transforms into a swine. A giant monster comes to life on stage while the play of the lights and shadows on the set by Svetoslav Kokalov blurs the line between reality and illusion."

"Don Quixote" Entered the National Theatre | Kristina Patrashkova, 24 Chasa, 04.04.1994

"The popular director Alexander Morfov is often affiliated to the avant-garde - maybe due to his "argument" with Stanislavsky. But maybe due to his decisions that rely on visual and playful suggestions rather than on the text. Gags, jokes and mystical scenes inhabit Don Quixote's stage  - a motley of colour and magic. The deep philosophy contained in the sad reality is not arrogantly imposed on the viewer but gently reaches the ears of those who want to listen. Seeing this magnificent celebration of fantasy - both the director's and the set designer's, some of us might remember of Peter Brook, but we will readily admit that Alexander Morfov is being himself, employing his unique theatrical language."
